New Swimmer Evals
The date for new swimmer evals are March 8th from 2:00pm - 4:30pm at the Fort Mill YMCA pool. All parents, siblings and swimmers are to wait in the lobby. Your child will be called in the order that he/she arrived and will be escorted to the deck by the persons completing the evaluations.
New swimmer evals are for the safety of your child as well as all the other children on the team. We want all of our little fish to be safe, happy and have fun this summer! Swimmers are expected to be able to swim the full 25 yards of the pool unassisted without touching the lane lines and/or the walls during tryouts. Some freestyle strokes should be evident during the 25 yard swim. Additionally, the coaches are looking for emotional readiness. If a swimmer is unable to swim the length of the pool unassisted or separate from their parent easily, the coaches will recommend that they spend the year in lessons to prepare for next year.
Each child that is new to the team will be evaluated for swim team readiness. Three persons will accompany your child during the entire duration of the evaluation. Your child will be given different instructions and tasks to complete, all the while the evaluators will be noting the child's responses and readiness cues. The graded sheets from all three evaluators will then be tallied and you will receive an email within 72 hours of the evaluation telling you if your child is able to register for the team.
If your swimmer has been on a competitive swim team before, and you feel he/she does not need a new swimmer evaluation, please contact the board at [email protected].
We look forward to meeting all of the new swimmers.
